Marvellous Milk 🥛

Are you in for a lightly sweetened dessert? Not a huge fan of sweets that make your teeth slightly ache? Opt for Roji Monster's Milk Shaved Ice Cream! 🥛 (Okay, so this is technically Bingsoo, just in a different form😅).

Bingsoo Hotspot 9 🍧:
Roji Monster Ice Cream Cafe, Burwood

Roji Monster Ice Cream cafe is a themed café with ‘Roji Monster’ (an adorable little monster with two googly eyes 😆) as their brand character. They decorate their desserts to match up with their brand character, which is very innovative! 🤩

Location and Ambience

Roji Monster Ice Cream cafe is located in a partial alleyway on Burwood Rd. It is around a 3 minutes’ walk from Burwood station.

Roji Monster Ice Cream cafe is considerably small in size. Hence, if it is lunch time or peak hour, the café can get quite packed and you may need to line up in a queue and wait. The café what’s a lot of wooden themed furniture and decorations. TheThe also have a few of their ‘Roji Monster’  figurines and statues that brightens up the café 😊.  Overall, the café has a relaxing and chill vibe to it 😌.

How to Order, Setup of the Café and Price

Once you enter the café, there will be a wall besides the entrance with flavour cards. These flavour cards have different flavours of shaved ice that can order from, along with two blank spaces for preferred toppings. There will be an arrangement of different stamps near the flavour cards with various toppings that you can choose from. When you decide which two toppings you would like with your shaved ice, you can stamp it in the two blank spaces (I know, it is a little complicated but a staff can help run you through the process 😅).

Roji Monster Ice Cream cafe allows customers to customise and choose their favourite toppings to pair with their shaved ice 🤩. When you finish stamping your chosen toppings, you can hand in the flavour card to the staff at the counter and pay. The staff will provide you with a buzzer and you can collect the order near the counter when your shaved ice is ready 😊

I ordered the Milk Shaved Ice with the chosen toppings of rice dumplings with matcha jelly and matcha soft serve ice cream 🍡. I believe the price of my shaved ice with the toppings was $14.

Roji Monster Ice Cream Cafe also serves other desserts including their monster waffle, marshmallow toast, drinks and many more. However, the flavours of shaved ice that they offer are inclusive of milk, uji matcha, black sesame, French cocoa, strawberry yoghurt and milk tea 😝

Bingsoo Presentation

The Roji Monster Milk Shaved Ice looked very appealing. The milk ice cream was shaved onto a decorative porcelain plate. It was formed to look like their brand character with two enlarged eyes made with sugar that are placed on top of the Milk Shaved Ice. Next to the Milk Shaved Ice were the two toppings, two small rice dumplings with matcha jelly and matcha soft serve ice cream 😍. Overall, it was very nicely presented on the wooden serving tray with a wooden spoon.

Bingsoo Taste

At the back of my mind, I assumed that the Milk Shaved Ice would taste quite plain, given its’ name. However, it had a hint of vanilla to it rather than just a solid milk flavour. After the first bite, it immediately melted in my mouth and was not very sweet (no surprise here 😂). Although it was not teeth-aching sweet, it did not have much of a flavour to it either. It just had the small touch of vanilla which I believed could have been enhanced 😕

The small rice dumplings and matcha jelly on the other hand… Fantastic! 🤤 I loved it! The small rice dumplings added a nice chew and were slightly sweet 🍡. The matcha jelly had a subtle matcha flavour and was a new taste to me (in a good way) 😄

The matcha ice cream that accompanied the Milk Shaved Ice looked great in the photo but it was quite strong for me 😔. It had a pronounced bitter taste which is expected for anything matcha flavoured. However, this matcha ice cream was way too bitter for my liking 😩.

Hence, if you are looking to visit your first themed café, head over to Roji Monster Ice Cream cafe! They have many customisable toppings that you can choose from if you order their shaved ice 😉.
