Summer is almost ending! What should we enjoy during the remaining weeks of Summer? Bingsoo!!! It is time to invest in some Bingsoo that will keep your body cool from the heat. Give the Injeolmi Bingsoo (or any other bingsoo flavours) at Kanzi Café a try! 😋

Bingsoo Hotspot 12 🍧:
Kanzi Café, Haymarket

Kanzi Café is a relatively popular café in Haymarket, especially among university students. They have a wide variety of Korean desserts and drinks. For example, their fish shaped buns with various fillings (yum!😋), multiple Bingsoo flavours (YAY!) and innovative Korean drinks 🤩

Location and Ambience

Kanzi Café is located in Haymarket, on Sussex St. There is a boutique clothing store beside it, and you will have to walk down a couple stairs to enter the cafe.

Kanzi Café is a relatively big cafe with a small lounge area by the stairs and more seating available further inside. It is a popular café for students, workers and friend groups. It is a great place to catch up, chill with people and enjoy a small meal or delicious dessert 😀. The café has a relaxing vibe to it with a rather vintage interior 😊.

How to Order, Setup of the Café and Price

Once you enter the café, you can check out the menu near the counter. There are a variety of different desserts, drinks and small snacks that are on the menu board. When you have decided on what you want to order, you can order by the counter and pay in advance and the staff will provide you with a buzzer. You can then find a comfortable seating area and wait until the buzzer rings to collect your order😊. We ordered a large Injeolmi (Soybean) Bingsoo which costed $17.

Kanzi Café also has a range of different Bingsoo flavours including matcha, chocolate, melon, strawberry and mango 🤩

Bingsoo Presentation

It had been a year or so since I last visited the café, so it is not strange for the interior of the café and the Bingsoo presentation to change 😅

The Injeolmi Bingsoo was admittedly quite small considering it was labelled as “large” 😕. It was plated on a ceramic white plate with the milk Bingsoo in the centre. The Bingsoo was sprinkled with injeolmi (soybean) powder. It was decorated with small dollops of whipped cream and injeolmi rice cake surrounding the Bingsoo. The Injeolmi Bingsoo was topped with whole sweet red beans and a scoop of vanilla ice cream 🍨 and a mint leaf 🌱. Lastly, it was drizzled with some condensed milk (pheww, that was a hefty description 😅). Overall, the Injeolmi Bingsoo was kind of flat in structure compared to all the other ones I have had 😥.

Bingsoo Taste

A year back (yes, I am going back to the past again 😞), Kanzi Café was one of my top preferred Bingsoo spots and I loved their Injeolmi Bingsoo. They were incredibly generous with their serving size for the same price of $17 in the past. However, now it might be because there were not enough ingredients but the size of the Bingsoo had significantly decreased 😔.

Otherwise, the Injeolmi Bingsoo definitely had more of a sweet milk flavour than the nuttiness and roasted flavour of injeolmi 😕. However, it was light and melted in your mouth immediately. The addition of the ice cream assisted in providing that subtle vanilla flavour to the Bingsoo. Whereas, the sweet red bean had an  earthy and light sweet flavour. The injeolmi rice cake was chewy and had a hint of savoury (I wish they had added more though 😞).

Overall, the Injeolmi Bingsoo was alright and had a lot of ingredients to compensate for the missing injeolmi flavour.

Bingsoo Rating

This Bingsoo rating will be out of 5 stars based on my personal preferences and experience 😏. I will outline the common attributes and quality that I look for in Bingsoo and rate it.

Bingsoo Flavour:
⭐️
⭐️/ 5
I was looking forward to being hit by that intense Injeolmi flavour but it was missing 😔.

Bingsoo Presentation: ⭐️⭐️/5
The Injeolmi Bingsoo was quite flat 😅. I feel like if it had more structure, it would be much more appealing.

Bingsoo Ingredients:
⭐️
⭐️/5
I wish there were more of the Bingsoo, injeolmi powder and injeolmi rice cake 😭

Bingsoo Melting Point:
⭐️⭐️
/5
The Injeolmi Bingsoo melted quite fast (probably because of the weather that day).
